Oil on Canvas
36 x 48 inches
$2,500
In 1999, I was seriously injured in a car accident. Later, I created a series of 10 oil paintings that depicted symbolically my thoughts, emotions, and beliefs about this accident, starting from right before the accident happened until afterwards, in the hospital, when I knew I would be OK. The paintings were meant to be viewed like a storyboard from 1 to 10.
This painting is the second painting in the series. It is a comic look at the moment after the other car hit me at high speed and sent my car spinning out of control across the freeway towards the center divider. I remember hearing myself screaming but I also remember thinking that it was just like Toad's Wild Ride at Disneyland, and being amused at that notion. The figure of fate has gotton darker, and an abstracted car accident is depicted to the left of the road.
